I recently listened to an interview with Greg Wasson, former CEO of Walgreens. A few years ago, he allowed the Walgreens agreement with Sure Scripts to lapse because he thought the terms were unfair to the pharmacies. Walgreens lost millions of dollars and the stock dropped in value. A year later Sure Scripts came back with a better offer.

Maslow’s well-known Hierarchy of Needs places safety just above survival. Recent social movements such as Me Too and the Great Resignation have brought employee dissatisfaction with their working circumstances to light. Thousands of people have left the workforce. A majority of workers who quit a job in 2021 cited low pay, no opportunities for advancement and feeling disrespected.

I recently took a vacation. 

Not a relocation to work as usual from a different place, or a conference with learning and networking responsibilities, but a break from the usual routines of work and home life. I didn’t cook or clean for an entire week. I visited my siblings who have known me for decades and are not impressed by any of my accomplishments. This was a great opportunity to truly separate from work responsibilities. I recommend it.
